Ron,

considering the corner speeds achieved with todays tires, the safe assumption is a dry sump will be needed. If you run a wet sump, the chances are you'll screw up your big buck racing motor. Unless you can get away with an accumulator like an Accusump.

This advice is for the guys who are "truly" going racing with their Panteras. It makes no sense to install at $10K to $20K motor in your car, and then protect it with a less than $400 oil pan. A $1K dry sump system is more in order with the rest of the car.

George,

Thanks for the responce .. only reason I ask is because there are 10 QT oil pans being made and used ... which also means that they are not necessarily effective ??

Oh I agree 100% the dry sumo is the way to go .. but my thought procees is to try to tap into what is being used effectively ...rather then seek the advise of the manuifacturers who will sell you anything.

Thanks

Ron
Detom .. yes but as I look into it more and more ... a good dry sump system .. some have oil heaters .. and the key to maintaining oil temp is thru the COOLING SYSTEM on the car ... that on a PANTERA is a very touchy subject ..but not impossible to correct. They key is to seek the advise of the ELDERS ..who are very limited on passing on R&D.

LOL

Ron
Dan Jones will tell you how to do it. He talked to me a little on it. If nothing else we could use a thrmostat that controls where the oil flows, if it's too cold it flows to a heater, too cold it goes to the cooler. The key is building your whole engine to operate at a specific tem. That is how you size all the clearances and fits. Dan also can give you tips on modifying the oil galleries so they go to themost important parts first and you get oil where you need it, when you need it. George Pence knows everything there is to know on how to balance and blueprint an engine. If you take your time and listen to their advice, you can have a 700+ HP engine that will last a whole season, maybe two. But that is just the beginning, the engine is just one component. If you are making a dedicated race car, there is lots more to do. Like lower your CG. Panteras were designed to be road cars. You will be on race tracks, so you need to flip the tranny right side up again and lower the engine to keep the allingment right. I think it moves the CG down in the car several inches, which also gets you clearance for your IR fuel injection tubes. Plus you will be able to run your bundle of snakes headers underneath thecrossmember which will get it far enough away from your rear trunk deck to keep the carbon fiber from catching on fire. Lots of cool stuff you can do on a race car you can't do on the street.
Detom ... thanks ... the engine builder I have chosen is local ... he has raced and build SBF's ... as you can see I'm in the middle of my R&D with respect to Dry or wet ... I'm commited at this point to DRY ..all I need is a PANTERA OIL PAN.

The CG situation I think is a bit more complex then that. In the class I'm shooting for there are limiations to altering the car extensively. Its a bit more of a challenge. Flipping the trans os out. IR EFI is not allowed on a Pantera. The car has to be steel .. a lot of the car has to be stock or with stock options.

Thanks Ron. That oil pan should be available. I know on the early Group five cars they used a dry sump oil pan. That was some of the trouble they had with the Bud Moore engines, cause Nascar is not the same as Lemans racing. Are you going over to France to run or are you going to do that ALMS over here?? You can maybe also race in that over theroad catagory and get to be good buddies with that Mad Dog guy.
I am kinda jealous.
