I need a Factory Carb for my 79 GTS

That looks like it would fit an autolite carb.

That's right Ron, that's the Autolite 4300D pattern. I see the carbs on e-bay regularly.

That big trench on the front & right sides of the carb pad is for exhaust gas recirc. If it were me, I would pick up a '72 manifold, which doesn't have the trench. I see them on e-bay all the time too.

Detom .... yes Autolite but some say Motorcraft but I'm with you I thought Autolite. I need the spacer.

George ... I caught up in a MAD ORIGINAL mode with the 79 so I want the original spacer and carb. 4300D ???? Ok I'm on it THANKS MAN .. hey gonna have some pic soon of the XE .. got a top end deal .. the guy who own GOYA hooked me up !

Thanks George ... I didnt realize as one of those adds on ebay states that 73 was the only year for a EGR ... now I see your point. It may be a good idea to have the carb and spacer for future and not put it on .. I have the feeling it wasnt the most perfromance oriented comboination thats why they were taken off. A lot to process. Whats your thoughts on the Autolites perfromance capability ?

I think both are correct Ron. Motorcraft was a company set up by Ford to sell Ford replacement parts. I think they may have either bought a carberator company named Autolite or maybe just made it and that was like a brand name.

I didn't pay attention to the business end of the situation back then, but everything that was Autolite in 1971 became Motorcraft in 1972, they were the same company, producing the exact same parts, just a new name.

I know from experience the Autolite carb is good to 400 bhp, how far above that it will go, I couldn't tell you. I plan to find out.

The egr spacers are hard to come by; the whole set up, manifold, spacer & carb, would be worth acquiring if you are really into the "original" thing. This way you would also have a manifold that hasn't had the secondary holes elongated.

Otherwise, the '71 - '72 manifold would be a better acquisition.

i have a factory carb but it would need rebuilding because it hasnt been used in 2 yrs ill look in the garage tomorrow... if you still need it

Yes do you have the baseplate also.
