I need a new speedo cable where can I get one.

I am restoring bodywork on my GT5 and Rob Pink brought his freshly restored pre-L over to lend a hand. His speedo wasn't working and we also diagnosed a broken cable. I had my MIG out and said lets try welding it, we have little to lose. It welded up nicely and is working fine.

Try this. It is a cable core kit. You cut to length. 120" long seems like it would work. Only $6.00, can't go wrong. Someone needs to buy it and tell us if it works.

I have to admit that I lost the end. The welding idea might have worked since It broke 1 inch from the end. Actually I might be able to put a new end on and just make it 1 inch shorter. (I would still like to get a price on a new Unit.)

The vendors should have them in stock as they break every now and then. I got mine from Roland Jaeckel in Germany if you can't find any in the US.

... or you can get rid of your speedo cable altogether by converting your speedo to electric operation. North Hollywood Speedometer & Clock (818-761-5136) can take the workings from a VDO electric speedometer and transplant them into an OEM Pantera speedometer. They can also supply a matching VDO sending unit for the ZF. I had them do this for me with an electronic Veglia Borletti speedometer and sending unit and it works perfectly. At the time, they asked me why I wasted my money on the Italian gauge and sending unit because the VDO equivalents would have been much cheaper.

David - how much did this conversion cost, if you don't mind me asking?

Charlie, no problem. The labour cost was $250 in May 2000. I supplied North Hollywood Speedometer & Clock with a speedo and sending unit from a 1990's Pantera Si. Don't ask what those two items cost. It's too painful to think about! I could have performed the same conversion with a VDO or Autometer electric speedo (approx. $225) and sending unit (approx. $100).
