Jack,
I own a 1973 L with a Ford electronic ignition with matching box and a Jacobs coil purchansed and installed by Hall Pantera. I recently had the distributor rebuilt and recurved, hoping this would help the car rev to beyond 5500 rpm. This didn't help. I then took it to a dyno and the results (according to the mechanic) was the box and coil needed to be upgraded. He suggested a MSD 6 box and a Blaster 2 MSD coil. I want to purchase both but I need to know if they will mate to the distributor without any modififcations. The mechanic said that I may need something else added to the box to make the stock tach work. Could you please help me out. Thanks in advance. My e-mail address is alsinclare@excite.com

The MSD will match your Ford distributor but as was mentioned, you'll need the MSD tach adapter for your stock tach to work, and you may want the reverse-current diode or the ignition key might not shut the car down. This is true for any MSD stuff. FYI, they have a website with all thir manuals posted. Its not unusual for a Ford brainbox to malfunction, but to only go partway out is a little rare. Lots of guys making this conversion carry a spare Ford box in the trunk for when, not if, they need it. Is your mechanic absolutely sure its not the vacuum advance or something similar?
