I've been going down this rabbit hole since last year and now am trying to get out. It started out by installing LED lights in the dash but I couldn't get my little girly hands in there. So, I took the dash out and that let to "While I'm in there maybe I should do more". But life got in the way and now I am just wanting to get things back together for our fall cruise. I volunteered my wife to help out installing the dash. that didn't work because we couldn't get our hands in the back to connect lights and heat/AC vents. How could I get the dash up close and connect everything? Then I saw that I had Harbor Freight seats that adjust had adjustable heights. 15-16 inches and WOW. I could connect all the lights and heater hoses and simply twist it into place. A lot easier that holding it up by hand, I am sure that there are other options, but I didn't find any on searches.

And I am watching the chase seen on the movie Bullitt. That is great!!!

I have done this.

The single pod has a trick to it. You need to drop the steering column or remove it to get to the last screw that is behind the speedometer. You can not do that with the column in place. You have to do it through the hole for the speedometer.

Then you need to work from underneath to install the speedometer, the retaining bracket and retaining nuts of the speedometer. Then put the column back up.

I do not have little tiny girly hands. More like big gorilla ones. That was the only spot that really was challenging.

The last screw gets tightened through the tach hole. Then you fasten the tach bracket from underneath through the steering column void.

The wiring harnesses are less problematic. They all just unplug and you really can't mix them up.

The a/c duct hose for the left side is a tight fit and I had to squash it a bit to clear everything under the dash but it works fine.

When I removed my dash, I left the gauges in place. I pulled it out just enough to unplug the 4 multiwire plugs. 1 for the speedo, 1 for the tach, 1 for the 4-way flasher button and the last one goes to the gauges in the center console. There were also wires to the e-brake and brake pad ware indicators and well as the lights in the center of the dash. This is the 73 I was working on.

Is there a DIY of the removal? I have a 74 and need to remove it to have it wrapped being cracked. Thanks.

The '74 is the single pod and is mold injected "plastic". I don't think those are repairable. The material is too thin. Unfortunately the US cars will probably all crack somewhere?

The single pod "Euro" cars used a fiberglass dash which is much sturdier.  I actually bought one from Bob Byers at Procession Proformance. You can stand on that one and if you can get one I 'd recommend that as a replacement rather then attempt to repair the original.

I don't know if it is in business at all with the death of one of the brothers?

Doug,

Sadly, both Byars brothers have passed away. The brothers were partners in Precision ProFormance. Bob sold parts and Don worked on cars, mostly doing restorations. Both had worked for Hall Pantera at some point and Don even worked for Steve Wilkinson for a while. Don left the partnership and opened Full Throttle Panteras as he needed more space. Their separation was completely amicable and they were each other's best customers. Prior to Don's passing a couple of years ago, he sold Full Throttle Panteras to Greg, who had been Steve Wilkinson's mechanic for a long time. I hear the work is still great and the prices reasonable. I'm sure Greg also knows the sources for most of the parts Bob and Don sold.

One of them actually made the single pod for me. I don't remember which one I dealt with.

He didn't keep a stock of them but had the mold for it.

It fits perfectly and the leather fits it perfectly because it is made so well. I can't say that about the '74 US plastic dash.

The Pantera world isn't large but too many are gone already.
