Pantera 58 and all,

I am not sure what is going on with your seller, but I know all about this Pantera.
I know the "real" present owner, location, history, condition etc.

The Pantera is in the USA...and has just been "personally" inspected by
a well known and respected Pantera Shop Owner...just two weeks ago.
I paid for the inspection, and was issued a full written report.
I have been talking to the owner about a purchase...
along with one other car I have been interested in.
I will be making a personal inspection very soon.

It seems this car (info and pictures) has been scammed from a eBay auction
posted sometime back..as this is not the first such question to arise about this particular car.

As a general rule and warning...
With most purchases on eBay or anywhere...
you should make doubly sure of the car in question..
and do some serious research before getting your hard earned cash involved.

I hope this helps !
Ron,

Yes..the "second chance" offer is another avenue of eBay scams.
I'm sure you will never hear back for the apparent seller.

eBay can be a great seller's and buyer's tool...but it's being harmed by these "scam artist"
and ruins the whole deal for honest people. It's a shame this happens.

Be careful out there....

Ah yes, the eBay conspiracy, they make it almost impossible to actually contact them and when you do you get a totally irrelevant outomated reply. The same is true of Paypal (an Ebay company), I recently tried numerous times to send money to buy a set of ball joints for the P car, everything was good until I wanted to change from the defualt direct debit out of bank account to my credit card (so I get the extra protection) then it reroutes to a login page and then an error. I can get to the same place every time without fail ! I just know if I click direct from my bank account it woudl go through, just not gonna do that on principal. Go to file a complaint or contact Paypal, what happens and yep an error message page.

I for one am about to give up on eBay, I've seen too many scams and heard too many horror stories of late and they just don't seem to care. There's a new auction house out there I saw a TV commercial for that had a 100% guarantee against fraud, just can't remember the name at present. Some stiff competetion may make eBay sit up and take notice.

Hmmm...Paypal will always take your Paypal balance first; but that isn't what you meant by 'bank account' is it?

When I have no Paypal balance, I have never tried to bypass the bank account for a credit card. What you experienced may very well be policy they do not publish - it surely would piss me off also. Mad

Anyone else experience this denial of credit card use?

Larry
Julian,

The "new auction house" you mentioned with "100 % fraud free auctions" is I believe.. UBid
http://www.ubid.com

They have the commercial right on their site.

One last tip from me if you do use eBay is...
If you get any kind of message from eBay..or a member...
sign in on your eBay account ("my eBay") and look at your inbox.
If it's not in there..it's most likely false !

eBay sent out a message this month(August)...saying the same thing and more.
That will be in your eBay messages also.

Again...Be careful out there....

On PayPal,

I have never had problems switching between "bank account funds"..or "credit card funds".
Whether I had a paypal balance or not.
When I did use the credit card choice..it did prompt me that the bank account deal was "safer"
in their eyes. Something to do with a PayPal "guarantee" ???
But you can opt out of that and carry on.

Being a computer tech...my best guess would be the security settings on your browser...
is the problem why you are getting a error message.
But..it could be some internal account setting with paypal...that is particular to your account.

My wife's paypal account got so screwed up by paypal..she cancelled her account all together !
So anything is possible.

I won't even get into the debate on eBay owning Paypal...and the sometimes obscene
fee's they charge !
So I will end my comments now....

Regarding ebay, I think their attitude is that if you step out of their auction format to make a deal, it's your problem if it's a scam. I ran into this 3 years ago, and when I was sure it was a scam, I tried to get ebay to do something. They seemed to care less about it. It's almost impossible to reach a human at ebay, and it seems like they pretend to care about scams, but it's smoke and mirrors. If someone has found an alternative to ebay, I'd love to hear about it.

I have had people try to make deals after an item I had or they had expired. I don't think any one of them would have been specifically trying to scam me but I won't do it. I feel it's better for both involved to keep ebay items "on" ebay.

I wonder if this had a happy ending...
Sad story.
