Does anyone know what this fitting on the knuckle of the heim joint is?

Looks like some type of lubrication point, but I'm not sure...  If it is how do you lube it ?

Also...  All of my suspension bolts have red paint on the heads...  Anyone else notice that?

Thanks,20220607_132049_HDR

Mike, the red paint marks were apparently inspection marks...you'll find them all around the chassis (engine mounts, etc). see 8ma1046, esp the 3:31 am entry.

Unfortunately, they only really look right on top of a black bolt....so in the enthusiasm of installing all new, bright zinc hardware--hmm, buy a blackening kit

Btw, I don't remember seeing those grease fitting on my heims, but (esp since the boots are on, access a pain) suppose that just cleaning then saturating with grease is the right path.

Putting on the boots, not all that hard--if I remember correctly, poke the threads starting at the boot small end and thru the far end, screw just enough into the rod to hold the heim, then just give the thing a big pull (and the rubber stretches like childbirth over the heim).

I got the proper pointy fitting for my grease gun and I can confirm, those are indeed grease fittings.  you have to hold the gun on them pretty firmly and put some pressure on it, but then grease will come out from around the Heim joint ball.

The difference is noticable!  just be sure to rotate the ball and regrease all the way around.
