Says the wise one who helped advise me that the engine was nicely built (what do I know?).

Its a stroked HiPo 289 (now 331) with all sorts of go-fast work done on it. The dyno says 410 HP and 393 lbs/ft of torque, and the seat-of-the-pants agrees! The noise out the back (no mufflers, just some scavengers) is earth-shattering!

So Mark if we all drive to Ottawathis weekend do we get to take turns driving the GT 40? I'll let drive my Escape. It makes my corvette look like a family sedan. Looking forward to getting together with you guys up there. The Pantera comes home May 1, weather permitting.

Replica. If I had enough cash for a real one ($millions), I'd have a Miura as well! (and a Mangusta, a Bora, a Ghibli, an XKE, a 250 GTL and probably a nicely finished garage.

It's a GTD. One of the larger and earlier makers of the replicas. The car was built in the UK in 1988, so it has that nice weathered patina. There are some great kits to start from now (RCR, CAV, MDA, ERA, but bring a big wallet and lots of time...

Mark, I think the GT40 deserves a photo album here on the board. I've always loved the GT40, but until now, have never been really impressed with the kits that I've seen.

Congrats to your new car. Last summer I had the chance to try Gavin Hutton's GTD 40.
Not so easy to get in the car. From this day on, I am happy with the space of a Pantera cabin.

The Pantera cabin is on the spacious side as far as Comp GT cars go. Most of those drivers are the size of Jockeys. Must be a weight thing.

I think the GT is better in the snow but you need chains.

Michael, the decision is easy - drive the Pantera unless I am REALLY paying (or wanting) attention. As Franz will no doubt attest, the GT40 is a car that requires a fair bit of attention to drive safely, and the less traffic around, the better. But DEEB assures me, that will get easier with time.

Mark, I’d love to do an album, but don’t want to clog the PBB with it, and I have a bunch of items to deal with before I want to show any detailed photos!

Franz, getting in is all about not stepping in sh*t before you stand on the seat to lower yourself in. Also, a removable steering wheel is an absolute must in this car (as opposed to a nice idea like it is in a Pantera).

Doug. I’ll let you know for sure next winter, but I’m pretty sure that the Pantera’s prodigious ground clearance will prove it is the better “winter driver”—although my 335 tires are not ideal unless your are dealing with soft-pack snow where a large footprint is essential. I do feel very fortunate to have the garage of my dreams.

I wish I was your neighbor, I would come over and help you get them out of the garage. Very sweet. I can only have one bad ass car at a time or I got to buy the 'ol lady somthing of equal value. If your not single...how do you do it?

Bill, my wife loves cars as much as I (we) do, and we don't have kids. I have no doubt that if we did, there would be no Pantera and no GT40 (but also no mini-van either...). I bought her an RX-8, which she adores. I was cleaning out the garage yesterday and had the cars in the driveway and all my neighbours said to my face was how great my wife must be (she really is) and what a great job my cars do at slowing down traffic! Hey, who knew that these cars could do so much to enhance safety.

I don't like to step on a nice seat with my shoes, clean or not.
It needs a bit of learning, to get in without stepping on the seats, but it is possible.

Well I had a big weekend showing off the new (to me, anyway) Pantera and as a special treat Mark took me for a ride in his GT40.

Words can't describe what that was like. There just aren't enough synonyms for 'speed'. I was smiling all day afterwards. A big thanks to Mark for the ride and the chat about Pantera info in general. Kingston should be a blast! Are there any more confirmed guests?

You're a lucky man Carbo. Only a special guy (or awesome looking girl) gets inside Mark's rocket.

Andy, it was great to see you again, especially along with your new baby. It was nice to go for the drives in all 3 cars and to experience yet another Pantera. Each one a bit different and each truly a blast! You've got years of fun ahead and a great groups of friends here on the board and within a couple of hours—all ready to help when you need. Here's a couple more pics of the GT40 after I repaired some previous damage (rear clip opened on previous owner...) and re-did the stripes (wider) etc.
