Who's gonna sleep on top?

In the near term the GT goes on top. I need to go through a few things for piece of mind. Some minor leaks to fix. Also need to do some suspension and alignment tuning. It's never been titled. Iowa law changed in May of 2008 allowing it to be titled as a 1966 Ford GT40 MkII. Problem is, the state is not required to "administratively enact" the law until Jan 1, 2010. Titled as a 1966 it costs me $50 a year for registration and tags. If it is titled as a 2009 something-or-other, it's based on value and could be $1500-2000/year as long as I own the car -ouch. I need to get this right and hopefully draw a reasonable inspector to perform the initial inspection for titling.

They do make a lovely pair, don't they? One for relaxed GT-style cruising and one for ripping up the road at an ungodly pace. Nice that the colors go so well together too. Enjoy!

Yes indeed!

Mark, your MkI is a beautiful example. Which manufacturer made your chassis?

Best,
Kelly

Hi Kelly,

Mine is a GTD built back in the late '80s. It has a HiPo 289 that has been stroked, built with a really lumpy cam and has Brodix heads. Dyno'd at 410 HP which is WAY more than I know how to use. I'm about to convert over to some pin-drive wheels with some fatter, stickier rubber to see if that helps. Great fun on the track, but not something I could drive on a long trip like I could the Pantera.

Your car is really stunning and I personally think the titanium color is perfect for it. Should keep the cops away better than "arrest-me red" does too!

Mark
Very nice Mark and thank you for the kind remarks. That sounds like a very healthy small block. Of course, I've always known lighter is better but the performance of ~500HP in a <2400 lb car were pretty eye opening for me. Not sure what rubber you have on the car now, but I think you greatly appreciate a tire upgrade. My MkII has 17" Halibrands manufactured by Vintage Wheel with the Nitto competition skins. -Very good grip.
Kelly,

Excellent choice of stablemate Wink and the two together sure look good with the backdrop in your driveway.

Enjoy, I have a feeling it will be a long 4 months to January, hopefully there is an Iowa backroad somewhere you can drive it a little prior or get a temporary tag.

Mark, not to steal anything from Kelly's moment here, but are you going 15" or 17" with the new wheels. I hope to do the same soon and prefer to stay 15" for aesthetics but it seems the only 15" rubber worth having is the sticky Avon CR6ZZ and they are pretty expensive.

I'm sure Kelly will forgive the thread drift if you post a photo of YOUR GT40 with one or more of your Panteras! I am "sticking" with the 15" BRMs by Vintage Wheels. I managed to get a set of Toyo Proxes and figure at my rate of driving they will last until they crack and fall off the car. By then there won't be any gas left so it won't matter Wink

Kelly, I'm sure you can find a way to plate the car for a short time. As long as it is insured, around here it is a small fine if you accidentally installed the wrong plates on the car. As my friend says: "your mileage may vary".

Mark
Wow! That is one beautiful GT40! (Mark, I hope to see yours some day, too!)

Quick question for those who have made the vintage GT40 purchase: are there some online resources that provide education regarding the different models, manufacturers, mods and import/export regulations for those cars?

Like many others, I would also like to own a vintage GT40 some day ...

Thanks in advance,
EA
