I'm installing an O2 sensor for an air/fuel ratio gauge. I know that most are installed near the header collector. Mine is ceramic coated and I hate to drill and weld ruining the finish. My question is: since the pantera has such a short tail pipe, can I mount the sensor in the tail pipe near the collector? I read that it has to reach a certain minimum temperature to work, will it heat up enough positioned here?

Perhaps you could borrow one of those infra-red thermometers & take some measurements. The infra red thermometers don't read shiny surfaces accurately, keep that in mind when comparing readings.

Or, weld a bung into the exhaust just downstream of the collector & give it a try.

I've never really measured, but the collectors on Panteras look a bit shorter than normal anyway.

Just the ramblings of an enebriate.

Dennis I would also have to think that it would work in the exhaust near the collector like George said the collector are short and so are the headers. You have nothing to really lose by trying. Beats damaging that ceramic coating.

I have no first hand experiance with doing this but I was considering the same task.
