I am pretty sure that my front hood/bonnet has been repainted, and I want to have it repainted (again) "correctly" for show purposes. Does anyone know what on the underside of the front hood is NOT painted? The bolt that goes into the locking latch? The front hinges? The bolts that hold the front hinges? Anything else that shouldn't be painted? Any pics of the underside of the front hood from a "concours" car would be immensely helpful too!

Interesting that Ron's later car's underhood was painted as 'trim' but the underside of my 1974 hood was painted body color, including the latch and hinges. My car was original paint until 3 months ago, and this was carefully noted.

The headlight lifting bar was also body color, though you see MANY who neglect that or repaint it black. I don't have photos (at work) but that's how mine was, and is.

Hope this helps, and that others will chime in. Great that you're seeking originality.
FWIW, my 72 pre-L still wears its original paint.

The underside of the front hood, hinges (and bolts), and headlight bar were all painted in the body color from the factory. And I kept it that way when I freshened up the radiator compartment a few years ago.

The underside of my rear deck lid is flat black.
Thanks guys, that does help! I am surprised the bolt that fits into the locking mechanism would be painted- it seems pretty prone to being chipped up from being used....guess I will have to be extra gentle with it after having it repainted!

Another underside of hood question: are the support beams on the underside of the hood supposed to be slightly loose from the underside of the hood or firmly and seamlessly attached? If they are supposed to be attached, are they welded on? Glued on?

A Hudson: I hope that more and more of us will recognize what a great and important car the Pantera was, and try to preserve more of them for posterity (and for others to see how great they were!)

Thanks for any reply!
jb1490-

I was just looking at the underside of my REAR lid, and see exactly what you are talking about- each brace has a short piece of thin foam material holding the brace to the underside of the lid. Most of the length of each brace is NOT attached to the lid, just attached where the small foam pieces are...is that how the front lid is supposed to be? Do the Pantera parts suppliers sell these foam pieces?
