This may not be a very technical question, but here goes. The aluminum trim on my newly purchased 74 L was painted black by the previous owner. I would like to return it to the original. What is the easiest/safest way to take the paint off other than sanding it off. I don't want to damage the trim of course.

One thing to consider, the trim may have been scuffed pretty well in order to prep it for paint. I would remove one piece, remove the paint and see how much work is involved in polishing it back. There is/was a company in California I believe called Ano-Brite that specializes in the restoration of automobile trim. They did an absolutely fantastic job on my Cougar convertible several years ago (they weren't cheap). They primarily specialize in reanodizing aluminum, but you could ask them about restoring stainless. their phone # is 818-982-0997
