I'm puzzled by the reference to 1971. The car appears to be a genuine GT5 which would mean it would be at least a 1980 car or newer. Note how wide the rear license plate opening is and the squared-off rear wheel housings; those are characteristics of an Embo Carozzeria Pantera, which means it was built at least after 1978.

I think that it is a reference to the car being 1971 technology.
The negative to running air cleaners on the Webers is that you don't get to see the flames in the carbs when you start it up at night.
They do tend to keep the water from the car wash out of the engine though.
Oh well. Everything is a compromise.

I would say that 160 is a good number on a track like that.
A track like Pocono COULD be closer to 175-180.

I'm sure that someone like Jackie Stuart could put it on the rails of the bank turns and find a better ceiling. (He used to own a Pantera-don't know if he still does).

The air up there is much too thin for mortals like me. I don't know if I'd send a kid up in a crate like this to find out.
stupid question's:in stock form what would the top end mph be for the stock pantera?what would it take to hit the 200mph mark in engine up grades?i maybe crazy but i want to go once in my life at 200 mph,i'm 56 yrs.old and one of my goals is to run at 200 mph,is this possible with my pantera?my engine is out and would like to know what i can do to obtain this goal, like i said its something i have to do,no reason just being a kid agene!i would like to keep the engine compartment as stock looking as possible and roadworth for just cruising,is this goal reasonalably obtain!i've found a nice strect of super hyw.that goes perfecly stright for miles.thanks, les! kirmit is doing fine!
Theoretically; a simple change to the 3.7 final drive ratio, with the RBT taller 5th gear (0.642) would put you just over the 200 mph barrier at 6250 rpm

Realistically; It'll probably put you in a 200 mph coffin, unless you are prepared to do some serious work on the rest of the car, especially brake & suspension upgrades.

Talk to some of the guys that run the Silver State or Open Road Races for some set up tips.
For you guys interested in this car, that was made for Jeremy Clarksons video "top 100 cars" Look closely and you will see the harder driving is done not by Clarkson, its actually Phil Stebbings, founder of the Detomaso Drivers Club UK. The car belonged to one of the members when crashed previously by Quentin Wilson during filming for an early Top Gear. The BBC did indeed write a cheque for 50k sterling for the owner although he did not pay that much to have it rebuilt. During the rebuild the motor was also done, and dynos at 550hp, the car is a 1985 GT5, and today according to Phil Stebbings is one of the quickest Panteras he has ever driven, and he has driven dozens.

Less, all it would take is an engine that will turn a good solid 7500 RPM redline in top gear. I think any Nextel cup engine should do that just fine.
