Bruce contacted me, as he has found some Pantera ID plates that he would like to get back to the right car.

He has the timing plate, the Body Service Number plate (50169), and the Block Number plate, also known as the Mechanical Parts Number (03122).

I have searched the registry for the BSN and the block number, but find no direct match.

Has this car been scrapped? Is she still running around, naked of her ID plates ?

Who knows?

This would be a late July ’72 thru Sept ’72 USA-market Pantera based upon the sequential BSN (started with 50001 in July).

Bruce got them from a guy, who got them from a widow, etc… so little more other info from the source other that what we see.

The ID plates are being stored under Unknown1236 in the registry, until reunited with the correct car.

Thanks go to Bruce for his efforts!

And for you ‘math’ types, or anyone that likes a Pantera puzzle…

Here is a challenge to those DeTomaso fans good at simple math and interpolation:

Given the VIN, BSN and motor numbers (listed in the registry), what is the VIN of the Pantera with the highest probability of a match?

(or even just the approximate range.)

If you prefer, contact me offline so we don’t bore the rest of the group with math.

plotting Chuck's data should be an easy 45 to 60 minute task, BUT today has been extremely hectic.
I now have the MN and BSN versus VIN in Excel. However whenever I try to sort and select samples around the two tag numbers, I got blind sided.

I can tell you, the initial look over ...
the entire range is extremely scattered
there were no BSN below 4000VIN
