Hey Mitchell,

I'm joining you in having this issue. My rack has been leaking for years, and beyond vague comments like "they can be rebuilt" (without any details), I have been unable to resolve the problem. I have found that using a lot of bottles of "stop-leak" have helped a bit, but I think the real solution is to swap out the crappy original unit with a newer one from some other car—but WHICH?. I am certain someone out there HAS done this, but can find no details or recommendations. It seems that almost all of the first series (up to the 3000 VIN number) Longchamps have this leaking issue, and so I really hope someone can step forward with first-hand experience.

Thanks for reaching out. We are both in the same boat. I have owned my car
for over 30 years (series 1) with only 14000 km. I have inquired at Flaming
River Steering Systems (Burea Ohio USA). they may be able to build me a new
unit. The problem is, attaching it to the front crossmember. They expect me
to give them all the measurements and accept full responsability for
fitment. I am not sure if I can be that exauct and if it will fit. Price is
about $1100.00 US. Maybe you are more capable than myself. Let me know
your thoughts. Thanks again for your response! MItch

Unfortunately I suggested that. They don ‘t want to see my unit. Just send them the specs they need. Makes no sense to me but that is how they do business

Maybe layup the car up for a while and sent them your current leaker unit, then they own the measuring, no? All details could be addressed.

Unfortunately that would be too easy. They will not accept my rack. Only specs

Just bringing this to the top in case someone has solved this mystery yet. I am about to pull the entire system from my car (#2411) and see if I can find a suitable donor that can somehow replace it. I'm tired of leaving a trail of spots (or pools!) wherever I go (or stop).
