Kelly,

Are you thinking of dropping in a 6 speed? I only ever heard of one guy having done it cannot recall who. Look closely at the gear ratios, in my opinion the 6 speed just closes up on the existing 5 speed ratios, it really doesn't offer anything over the 5 speed except cost and more gear shifts. A tall 5th is a far more cost effective solution in my opinion.

Hey Julian,

Thinking? Always, though not sure how seriously when it comes to the 6. Lot's of dough just to have an extra gear.

As you know there are a number of choices with respect to gearing. They can be configured essentially identical to standard -2 at the output flanges in 1 through 5 but with an extra gear spaced about the same or even taller for cruise.

Right now I basically just beat my car around the countryside blacktops and 5.5-6krpm in 5th is plenty of top end for the street. But if I were to take some more extended excursions, the cruise gear would be nicer than buzzing 3krpm at 70 mph but I can't say I'd go out my way to have it at the moment.

I have a standard -2 in my car. Plenty of torque on tap and even with the big meats, 1st is a little lower than needed though it's OK for idling up the driveway and doggin around. I like the gear spacing in standard -2 just fine and have a 3.77 Ring an pinion to install. It won't do much for the cruise rpm but may improve the first gear experience a bit. Have a spare -2 that may get freshened up with that gear.

Best Regards,
Kelly
The 3.77 R&P will be a nice addition, if they weren't so damned expensive I'd probably switch to a 3.77 in both cars, the '74 definitely. When I purchased the GT5 from Coz the ZF was with Quella being rebuilt so I called and had him drop in the tall 5th while it was apart, still has the 4.22 rear end, but makes for a much better cruising 5th gear.

All the best,
Julian
I know I have seen a picture(s) of LLoyd's white Pantera with his RBT-6 posted here but I'll be darned if I can find it. Have searched the site every conceivable and no joy.

Have certainly found some useful information about required mods and variety of Pantera related compatability issues posted by Lloyd.

Anyone know the thread?
Eureka!

Thanks Julian. I came up with blanks on Yahoo search.

Looks like Lloyd made a simple extension to use the standard Pantera shift linkage. The shift Pattern of course would be different. Can't see what he did with mounts. I have read a few vague threads that suggest you need to do some hacking but at first glance I can't see why you couldn't just fab new rear mounts and use the existing Pantera rear -2 mounting locations.

According to an old thread of Lloyd's you just need new mounts, the linkage extender, and move the AC coil. Probably need other minor stuff too like shift gate etc.

I'd be happy to just ask Lloyd but never had replies from him in the past so thought I'd try the Board. Thanks for your help.

Kelly
