Removing the lower ZF cover

Happy holidays to you and your family! I keep seeing this thread on various de Tomaso websites regarding removing the lower ZF cover while the ZF is in the car. On my 71 car (#1887) with a �2 ZF, the lower cross bolts (the long ones that go through the side plates and cover) cannot be removed while the ZF is in the car because they will hit the sub frame rails. Has someone figured out how to get the cross bolts out? My �2 ZF looks identical to the �2 shown on the cover of the ZF manual and has the side covers that have the �1 type front extension. I�m with you, it�s not that difficult to pull out the ZF and just ship it of to a ZF expert (like yourself) and have the work done by a professional. Excluding the possibility of replacing the front seal if the owner is OK with wrench turning.

I do agree with you on removing the ZF to do any work on them, maybe on some of the cars you could remove the bolts on the pan cover
but the time you could spend jacking with it you could just remove the hole box.
