Guys,

Looking to get my engine coolant hoses replaced....they're several years old, and since I'm putting a new engine in....don't want an old hose to mess up my day!

Here is info that I have to date:

Gates Green stripe- 36" length of 1-3/8" bust proof hose for the straight splices everywhere on the car.... GATES #24222 About $24ish from better part houses. Perhaps a little more, couldn't find my receipt.

I went to Kragens today and searched their entire stock of formed hoses, to try and find something like what I have, which fit VERY nicely!

PA 6778492 B71662 This may be for the curve to the "Y" pipe.... or...
* PA 6572275 B71407 I think this might be the bottom hose, from tube to pump.

PROBLEM is that none of these numbers came up, or they didn't have them in stock, and since my notes are not complete, I wasn't going to have them order something......that ultimately doesn't fit.....

Water pump inlet measures 1-3/4
Under car Water pipe is 1-3/8 ( I think the only option here was to use 1-1/2" and clamp the heck out of it!

Y-pipe to Under car Water pipe is 1-3/8 on both ends.

I had used a sort of formed "J" shaped hose here that fits great and is the right diameter...but the kids at the AP store couldn't find anything to match the numbers stamped into the hose.....

SO, my question goes out to all of you....what did you find and what are the industry numbers and names associated with them??????

Post them so that we can all use them in the future!

....before I get all the posts.....yes, I considered the "bend to fit" hoses, but I really am not all that impressed with them when you can get nice neat formed hoses off the shelf.....or rack....or at least I did it last time!!!!!! The bend-to-fit hoses never fit anything I needed in the past....but for the Goose, they may be the only option left....ugh!

Let us know!!!

Steve, When I was a Parts rep Motorcraft/Gates went to a lot of trim to fit multiple applications. Buy more then return unused.

Denis,

Doesn't your car use the 90 degree thermostat housing outlet made by DeTomaso?? Or does your car still have the cast Ford housing on it?

Reason I ask, is that the top hose that connects the T-stat housing to the Y-pipe should just be a short piece of straight hose.... (Gates Green Stripe 1-3/8" is what I have planned for this and all of the junctions up front at the radiator and pipes!)

Thanks for the numbers, I'll see what I can locate!

Steve,

I have found the new silicone coolant hoses come in a vast offering of sizes, bends and reducers.

I bought some from the UK on eBay just recently for a little project on 2511. The link below is to the seller. They have a WAAAYY better selection than any USA vendors I could come across. My last order from them took 5 days to arrive - yup, UK to California in FIVE days.

To convert their metric sizes:

35mm = 1 3/8"
38mm = 1 1/2"
45mm = 1 3/4"

They offer them in black, red and blue. I picked the black. Wink

They have straight and 90/45 degree elbow reducers, too.

I found the best pricing on good SS T-bolt clamps from Summit.

I have successfully used these from them:

for the 1 3/8" hose...sme-240175
for the 1 1/2" hose...sme-240200

Good luck,

Larry

Note that silicone rad-hoses use a special hose clamp with a small "tongue" that covers the worm-drive slot in such clamps. The silicone is so soft, it tends to extrude thru the slot when normal worm-drive clamps are tightened. And one thing silicone is NOT good at is resisting cuts. Being notch-sensitive, it unzips like a cheap plastic bag. Pegasus Racing has proper aircraft clamps for silicone hoses. Or, you must be very careful not to ever over-tighten them. This's why I like the Gates green-stripe rubber hoses.

Jack is describing a more standard worm-drive clamp with an added 'tongue'. You will have trouble finding them at a normal outlet, but it is necessary to NOT use the regular ones, as the slots will dig into the soft silicone.

In fact, you will probably find it easier to locate the t-bolt units, than the long tongue worm-gears.

The clamp on the left is by Mikalor, from the UK. Easily found on eBay UK, and not too expensive.
