PanteraWes:

Changing the Pantera engine is not overwhelming if some forethought and planning is done beforehand. A reputable mechanic using care should have no major problems. It is better to take the engine/transaxle out as one unit. The decklid will have to be off. Pay attention to not smashing the rear window with the distributor. I'm sure someone on this web page will offer you more detailed advice.
Once the engine is out you can clean and detail the bay. Should also replace the clutch while you are at it.
Good Luck
If you're in the Redmond, Oregon area, stop by my shop. Changing engines in Panteras is a straight forward and easily accomplished project. I've had mine out so many times in the last ten years, I've considered using quick release pins in the mounts. In any case, contact me by email or a phone call if you are still looking for help.
