Does anybody know how to connect the rheostat by the left driver's knee. There is an orange and yellow /black cable but i don't know where they connect to the switch?

Not clear what you are referring to. the only rheostat I know of is the console lights, and it is on the center console, not..
by the left driver's knee.

There should be two terminals on the switch. It doesn't matter which wire connects to which one. Look at the instrument wiring diagram at panteraplace.com.

In an L model, the one by your left knee controls the lights in the gauges. The one on the gauge panel controls the greenish light that shines down from under the dash onto the gauge panel.
