Jannem, remember years ago I showed it's possible to LOWER the entire engine and ZF by nearly an inch, by sectioning the lower motor mounts and redrilling the ZF mount tabs. A small amount of rework of the rad transfer pipe clearance to the frame and the alt/AC bracket needed as well. This is easier with a much lighter rotary AC compressor.
It's also possible to combine this drop with a 3/4" backwards shift of the powertrain. The ultimate limitations (without even more rework!) are the clearance between the crossmember and the oil pan (I use an Aviaid 10-qt) and my Romac harmonic balancer to the water transfer pipes. NO problem with exhausts, wiring, hoses or shift linkage for these moves, which definitely help air cleaner clearance. And this is a '72 L street Pantera that remains quite driveable.

The Shelby intake manifold is not tremendously taller than the factory manifolds, its only about 5/8" taller, in fact the 4150 version of the Shelby manifold was intentionally designed to be compatible with the factory "ram-air" and "shaker" air cleaner assemblies found in Mustangs, Torinos, Cougars, etc. However, there is no such thing as a "drop base" air filter assembly for a Dominator carburetor because the fuel bowls are in the way. If you use the shortest 14" diameter air filter element you can find, and trim the bowl vents shorter, you may be able to squeeze the induction system under the engine screen. Mr Gasket sells a 14" x 2" filter element. I don't know if that will be short enough, there's only 1 way to find out. Smiler

If you are thinking of using the 750 cfm Dominator, list #80186, I have a tip for you. The older versions of the list 80186 Dominator have a base plate connection for a PCV valve and a ported vacuum connection for the distributor, the new HP versions of the list 80186 Dominator do not.

George is right, there is not enough room for a 14" drop base.
Actually you can get 16" drop base dominator air cleaners. Will it fit? I have no idea.
Here is a Moroso unit

BTW the Scott Cook intake is sold. Thanks.
Dommy intake still available.
Also as George said, the older Dominators like the 4575 have a PCV port and a vacuum port on teh metering block. the intake was sold with the 4575 in mind originally.
