Seat belt retractor spring

Your frustration and travails are exactly why the early seat belt retractors are rarely restored. If you continue, then you may need a supportive gearhead psychotherapy visit. Proceed with caution.

RR, when I fix these buckles, the spring is the first thing that gets installed during reassembly. Then the steel lock-piece on top, then the button. The assembly is held compressed with a small c-clamp while the plastic surround is snapped back in place. There are opportunities to install all the parts backwards or upside-down. Good luck.

I will press on because I'm a glutton for punishment, I can also see how one could put it together wrong, only to have to start over.

I found this online and couldn't help but laugh. About sums it up.

Well with a lot of tenacity, persistence,trial and error, but little true understanding, I fixed it.

This is pretty helpful, and close to the same vintage of our seatbelts.
