seat travel

I know what you mean. I just finished a four year restoration on my '72 pre-L. I'm 5'7 and I have to really stretch to get the clutch pedal down. And what's the deal with the wheel being so off-center from the seat when there's so much room between the seat and the console. Personally, I plan to dump the whole affair and install a pair of Fiero seats. I had a Fiero (paid 500 bucks for it) and it had the most comfortable seats I've ever sat in, really!

test fit the fiero seats before you spend $$$$ recovering them. I was going to put them in my car I'm 5'7" also and my head was hitting the roof. MAZDA Miata seats were worse! I have seen cars with Fiero seats in them at a couple of shows so I assumed they would fit but now I am thinking that these cars must have had the lowered floor pan kit.

I bought a car with Fiero seats in it. They were comfortable for street use (I'm 5'11"), but when I put on my hardhat for an autocross they were too high. My head was against the roof and I could not lean them back far enough to get my chin off my chest.
They took some work on the seat tracks to install. Fortunately I was able to put the original seats back in on the lengthened tracks. Good luck

Even though I bought mine with Porsche leather seats installed,(which are much bulkier than stock) at 5'3" I still needed to get closer to the pedals. I was able to turn the tracks around which made any further drilling unnecessary and moved it 3" closer. Good Luck Bob R. #3810

I'm also 5'7" and could not totally depress the clutch pedal. I simply adjusted the seat where the right foot was confortable with the brake and gas pedal and my arms were almost fully extended to the steering wheel and then installed wood blocks onto the clutch pedal to make up the difference. It works for me. Good luck.

I fixed this problem by fabricating a pair of brackets that moved the entire seat assembly forward by 4 inches while retaining the original mounting holes in the floor. It works great, I can comfortably reach the pedals, and I can revert back to stock in a matter of minutes. Thanks to everyone for your help and suggestions.

I like bmarconi's idea, reminds me of my grandmother with wood blocks on the pedals, but hey if it works!!! The problem with all the other suggestions is that moving the seat farther front, puts your chin right against the stearing wheel...not something I prefer being 5'5'' (but better than grinding gears from not depressing the clutch fully).
