1971 DeTomaso Pantera – s/n 01744

This 1971 DeTomaso Pantera, Chassis THPNLY01744 built June 1971 and sold new in St. Louis in 1972 has been in the same family ownership for over 34 years.  It was refinished in factory DeTomaso Group IV configuration with fiberglass riveted-on flares in 2003.  Painted in PPG base/clear Rosso Corsa Red (Ferrari 2003 color) with satin black lower bodywork and contrasting DeTomaso badge blue body line pinstripe.  The car is powered by the original, numbers-matching 1971 Ford 351c.i. Cleveland V8 that has been fitted with an Edelbrock Performer manifold and QuickFuel 600 CFM carburetor.  The motor was removed from the car and refreshed with new bearings, gaskets, Ford oil pan, water pump and fuel pump.  A Pertronics electronic ignitor and coil utilize the stock Ford distributor.  The cooling system was upgraded with the original FIM brass factory radiator with Scott’s pusher fans, Gates green-stripe hoses, and correct 180 degree Cleveland thermostat.  The car features Hall BigBore headers wrapped with high heat wrap and custom fabricated Dennis Quella stainless mufflers. It is further equipped with the original ZF five-speed manual transaxle which was fully rebuilt to include all new synchros and 2nd gear set by legendary ZF master mechanic, Roy Butfoy.  A new clutch, pressure plate and throw-out bearing along with new clutch master and slave cylinders with braided stainless lines were installed.  The car rides on Alden adjustable shocks with Hall GP IV springs and original Girling four-wheel disc brakes with Goodrich stainless brake lines.  A custom set of staggered 15″ Gotti Type 075 wheels were sourced directly from the factory in France and utilize Pirelli P Zero / P7 rubber (285/40 front and 345/35 rear). On the inside, original seats and DeTomaso interior are accompanied by a leather wrapped Momo Prototipo ‘GT’ steering wheel with Veglia and VDO gauges and Hall DeTomaso rugs. Additional appointments include Cibie headlights with ‘euro’ yellow bulbs and Mangusta Carello side markers. This Pantera is offered with receipts from 34 years of continuous family ownership and a smog exempt California title in the seller’s name.  The Pantera was designed by Carrozzeria Ghia and resulted from a collaboration between DeTomaso and the Ford Motor Company. The five-digit odometer shows 46k original miles.  Service records documenting ownership, maintenance and all work / upgrades performed since 1987 will accompany the car, along with the original “Blue Cover” owner’s manual, original keys, Marti Report, and a wealth of other pertinent printed materials to support the car. Located in San Diego, CA. Shown by appointment.  Price:  $79,500.  Payment by bank wire transfer.
