What kind of grease is recommended for the ball on the shift selector rod located inside the console? I have seen references to white lithium, PTFE, moly and synthetics. What do most owners use?

When my ZF came back from Butfoy I found the grease he used was just a standard amber grease. Did not look like anything special. That is a sealed box, no dust intrusion; I suspect the grease will remain functional for quite some time.

Same here - I used the light, fibrous looking wheel bearing grease.
When I opened my box, it was a little dried out on some of the unused surfaces, but didn't look like anything special.

Thanks guys. I was talking about the box in the console, but the selector box on the transaxle would probably have been my next question. Thanks again!

Grease is grease and will dry out on you. I have found that sewing machine oil works really nicely.
It has a penetrating effect with little drawbacks.
Don't mix it with Scotch though. I inadvertently did that and ... no, no, no!
