Out the other weekend and I got yet another one of the silly Corvette hand wave thingies.

I've heard there is a Corvette Guy thing where when they pass on the road, such as going the opposite directions on a two lane, they do a parade float wave.

Several times I've received this, probably because I usually flick on the parking lights when out for a cruise and they must think another plastic car is coming their way.

I always wish I could be a fly in their car after we pass and watch as the realization comes over them that - "OOPS, that wasn't a Corvette."

Am I the only one that has noticed this?

Larry...
Back in the olden days when you didn't see a Corvette on every corner it was the COOL thing to do!? It was like you were in the elite car club without being in an actual club. Then came the gold chainers! Most of them were to COOL to WAVE, so the WAVE some what died out.
Nowadays, there are a few Corvette drivers who remember the olden days and are trying to keep the WAVE alive!

Wow! the flash back is over!
Been there done that? I think!

When I was a biker we used to wave whenever we'd see another biker in passing. No candy-ass parade wave though. Didn't matter what you or the other biker was riding - hog or rice - just respect and acknowledgment of a shared passion.

The Porsche crowd used to flash their headlights at each other back in the 60's and early 70's too. I guess it's recognition and acknowledgement of a kindred spirit.
This is & always has been an unspoken tradition amoungst drivers of sports cars in my part of the country no matter what the make of the other car is. Just a sign of mutual respect for a passion that both drivers share in ownership of any type of sportscar regardless of brand.
Careful Larry...

Having been a NCRS Member > my last 2 Sting Rays award winning published cars > 20 years and 6 Corvettes later > I have waved till my arm has fallen off. I am now the proud owner of # 3463 and I'm too "busy" to wave. Although we should take a hint from us "Corvette Guys" and say "hey brother I'm out here too," when we see each other and not make fun of something you may not have ever experienced. Don't worry I woon't hold it against you and still wave when I see you.

As a Corvette owner I too participate in the wave. For me, it is usually just a lift of my hand, never a full parade wave.

I own a '73 and I notice it is pretty much just the pre-80's vintage crowd that waves. Recently though, I think some previous Corvette owners are now buying the C6's and they wave.

I know it might seem dorky, but it is fun to do. I have actually waved to a Vette when I'm in the Pantera. They wave back (and not just with one finger).

In Bermuda, all the taxi guys do it, and they don't care what make of car their fellow taxi-cab brethren is driving.

I agree totally. As I recall, it was a foreign sportscar thing from the 60's and 70's, although the tradition has pretty much died out. Heck, nowadays, people don't even flash their lites when there is a speedtrap ahead.

My first car was a TR3 and it was always great when a someone in a better sportscar waved back. Pecking order sort of thing. Nowadays, sportscars don't have the same cache like they did back then. Too bad. Probably has something to do with money.
Honestly I think the acknowledgement is fairly universal if you're into your car. I can tell you most of the younger WRX guys will wave. I can also say that the Prius owners wave. I, however, do not wave when driving the Prius cause I don't really like the car. I'm sure I piss off some other owners.

Generally I think classics will wave to classics around here.

Doug I'm invisible to teenaage girls. I don't know how it happened but I can stand right in front of them and they can't see me at all.

DT, we had this conversation before. They can see you. Put your clothes on. You're going to get arrested!
If I ever saw another Pantera on the road up here we'd probably end up racing to track each other down!
"Back in the day" BMW owners would flash their lights when they'd see another Bimmer coming towards them. Nowadays there are so many of them, you'd be flashing your lights every 30 seconds.
I still give a casual wave & a smile when I see another enthusiast on the road, it doesn't matter if it's a Miata or a TR6 or a Ferrari, we're all car nuts inside!
(Besides - it's easy to wave since I've got the window down already, thanks to my non-modified/useless air conditioning)
