Spare Tire Options?

What does everyone do for a spare tire or not as the case may be? Is a can of the tireweld re-inflate sufficient?

I currently carry nothing, which is not ideal but to now I ahev only had very limited drive time close to home. With spring around the corner (I hope) and the Vegas run in May, I wouldn't feel comfortable not having soem sort of back up.

To compound matters I'm getting my Kodiaks in 17" front and 18" rear so with the different overall tire diameters I guess this would make carrying a spare a no better option than the tireweld?

When I travel in my Pantera, I take the spare tire repair/inflator kit out of our Mazda RX8 (it doesn't come with a spare) and cross my fingers and hope I'll never need to use it.

Didn't someone say that if your spare isn't the same exact diameter as the other side you'll screw the ZF? If so, wouldn't you need TWO spare tires...?

George, I know you'll think I'm crazy, but the only tools I ever carry is my, flash light, pocket knife, and a AAA card.

One thing to remember is that if you feel a tire going down, put the tire spooge in quick before you break the bead on the tire. Once that happens, you're doomed on fixing it your self on the side of the road. I have a friend who learned the the hard way on his Vette. Now he carries a block of wood the throw under the rear end.

It would seem to me that since the car was furnished w/ only one size spare from the factory, which I would assume was meant to be used front or rear,then for limited distance at lower speed a tire that fits the front wheel space would also work on the rear. Am I missing something?

I haven't blown up the space saver that came with the car, but would assume the diameter to be close to 15" when inflated, andbody know for sure?

there was a fairly extensive post on this subject a few years back. If you search on the "find" button and put the words in "spare tire" you can come up with it.

in that post Jack Deryke said "I had a rear Campi go porus on a trip 15 yra ago, and inflated & drove 50 miles home on the stock spare. You really WANT to go 50 or less since the limited slip will get warm from the mismatched diameters, but no permanent damage resulted (to date) except to the spare. The tread was totally gone after 50 miles."
