Sure Richard, not a problem. I didn't know there was an interest.

Looking down into the empty housing through the cap end,you place a ball bearing into the seat with the inner race shoulder up, or facing the cap. Next comes a thick thrust washer to match the shoulder on the inner race. The pinion is then inserted into the bearing and washer, the splined shaft up or facing you. The second ball bearing is then placed over the splined end of the pinion gear, the inner race shoulder down or against the pinion. The shim pack is then reinstalled, the thickest being placed closest to the cap.(Doesn't really matter in which order) Then the cap is put in place and secured with the bolts that had been removed during the disassembly.

For the whole procedure refer to the link provided by jb1490.

This description is also in the Ford Service Highlights Manual (light blue cover). This manual is IMHO the only official overhaul manual that describes rebuilding a Pantera steering rack in detail. It is (or once was) sold quite reasonably thru PI Motorsports. It also contains much info on pushbutton-Pantera special body/chassis features.
While talking racks. I have just rebuilt my Goose rack and looking through old threads, saw that the pinion bearings for Pantera's were no longer available. I believe I have sourced these in Australia. The bearings are an eye watering $98 each, but if needed? Web is globalbearings.com.au Bearing No 441257C SKF.

Or email frank@globalbearings.com.au

Hope that helps someone. Mike
