Hello All, I'm going to install an MP3 stereo and am looking for speaker locations. 2 5 1/4" speakers will fit nicely in the door panels (2 already there). I wonder if anyone has any experience or advice on installing a sound bar in the roof ? This might be a good choice if I can do it without making any irreversible mods to the car

Alternatively, any other creative advice would be welcomed also

Thanks,
Tony

You can get an adjustable sound bar as per photo below from the likes of JC Whitney. I seem to recall someone saying in the Pantera the side cusions on the headliner were enough to hold it in place, so no cutting, glewing or screwing.

Sooo-that's what you call the thing that is mounted above my head in #5606 that I bought last October? The previous owner prewired the car for Sirius with an antenna on the dash as he didn't want to mount an AM-FM antenna anywhere.

The CD player works and I listened to a couple of Supertramp songs with it before I decided listening to music in a Cat is hopeless.

There is just too much damn (sweet sounding) noise coming from the engine...

Hi Julian, thats great input/advice - thanks.

I just checked JC Whitney and all are there sound bars are made for Jeep Wranglers. Is this the one you were referring to or do you think they previously sold some type of adjustable one that would work in the Pantera.

None of them looked like the one in your car - which is sweet.

Thanks,
Tony
There was a universal one that JC Whitney sold at one point. I found similar for sale on Ebay or at Vintage Car Audio....

This should bring the music closer to the ear, (which is what I was considering at one point) and is a fully reversible solution. Door speakers are pretty useless in the Pantera and then the holes in the panels are permanent.

Good luck,
Julian
I have seen one (1.0) Pantera with a nicely done longitudinal overhead stereo controller, possibly from Hall Panteras. This has the advantage of not having to cut the car up for speakers etc, and doesn't restrict headroom nor rear view since its directly above the console. But I agree that unless you add massive amounts of soundproofing, the industrial-strength explosions from the engine inches away from your ears will drown out most musical details. Judy and I use one earbud apiece for the C.B. and seldom play the stereo/CD changer.
