Throttle cable setup. 71 Model

Hi All.

It seems likely this setup has been modified at some point and we are looking for some clarity as to how the throttle cable setup should look. The carb in the picture (Edelbrock) is on the car now, but is being swapped back to a stock 4300/D for orginalities sake.

The return spring at the pedal can't be doing anything, the spring separates from the sheath as the pedal is worked. I think the only thing returning the pedal now is the little spring at the carb.

Is the cable in backward, or could this have been the OE setup? It's a pushbutton car, and several small details have been different along the way

The cable is in backwards. The return spring goes to the carb end.

Hi,
I agree, the cable is backwards. I refurbished # 1329, you can look at the factory book, the PB's have a different cable then the rest in original, there was a thread on cables not too long ago that I found to be very useful. The additional spring to improve the return I sourced from ACE hardware, they're supple and come in different lenghts.

What carb are you placing? Do you have the tag number codes? A 71 autolite for the Boss is on auction on Ebay.

The original '71 cable housing did not have a spring.

The pic on the left is incorrect for an original '71 throttle cable.

The pic on the right looks correct for the '71 throttle cable.

Both pics are from the car as it is today. My guess is the cable was replaced at some point and then installed backward.

It needs a bracket in the tunnel that I see in other photos, to hold the cable in place. That may have been a later feature as well.

Ducatista, I saw that carb & manifold on Ebay as well. I think I can find an appropriate year code for less $$ + My manifold is fine. Also guessing by your handle, you might like this. My other problem...

I have a 73 sport, a 900ss racer from the first AMA going for sale soon and a 900 NCR 79, sold the GT recently....they're my other problem too. Nice to find a ducati enthusiast!
