I have a clear State of Hawaii ownership title for a 1974 Pantera along with all the body tags and chassis numbers. It was wrecked and parted out. Anyone know what something like this is worth? I figure someone could use it for a car who's paperwork couldn't be found to make it legal?

Though I'm sure your intentions are genuine I'd caution you about offering such for sale. IMO, there is little good that can come from it and not worth what you might collect from the sale.

Most states have procedures for titling a car whose title has been lost. In some (actually most I believe) states it is illegal to tamper with a vehicle VIN in any way.

Such Vehicle ID items can potentially be used to enable a thief to pass a stolen car to an unsuspecting buyer or even worse, potentially embolden a would be thief to steal a fellow Pantera owner's car in order to do so. You don't want to get pulled into that.
In NY if you cant find the papers for a car ..there is a method called Sheriffing a Car. This method is done by a Impound Dealer who obtains abandon cars. I know my brother Impounds Cars In Westchester. They have to post an add in the news paper with all the cars info ... if no one claims the car in 30 days then they can apply for the title and sell the car.

Retagging a car is a big NO NO. You go to jail longer for Grand Theft then of you killed someone .. its a premeditated crime. Take the tags and throw them out. You junked the car and gave them the title .. that car is listed as a SALVAGE Title now and the serial #'s will always be second rate anyway.

Just my opinion.

About a year ago there was a guy who came to the boards asking for the very thing you have. He was building one fro tube frame and fiberglass body and wanted the tags to make it easier to get a title. You may just hand on to them until a simular situation arises. After all, why not raise a Pantera back from the dead??
Its illegal to raise a Pantera from the dead ... just like its illegal to raise a human from the dead ... LOL ... no disrespect intended. If you build a tube frame and fiberglass body Pantera you can get a KIT CAR title easier.

This exact reason is why for example my little other baby Autocraft Cobra has more value then a kit car. Its dosent have the same value as a 1967 AC COBRA original but it is an AC COBRA made in AC Factory in England and its TITLED as such. A AC COBRA kit doesnt have the same value since it dosnt have the correct title.

Some times it all comes down to numbers ... LOL

I would think you know a little about the law, huh Dennis.

Instead of being brutally honest saying you have the tags. Just say you have a titled shell to sell.. Peeps will get the jist. I sold a Boss 302 shell this very same way and it netted a 1000.00 bux. I think it coulda brought a bit more because it was a whole shell of a car but as for what the buyer did with it is none of my busniness.
