trans leak

Seems my ZF has developed a very slight leak from the bottom plate. I was planning on draining the trans, removing the bottom plate just enough to try to seal it with RTV sealant.
After reading some of the other posts, is this a bad idea?

Are you aware the bottom cover cannot be removed with the transaxle in the car? There are 2 long kingpins that go through cross-ways that the frame rails will not give you enough clearance to remove.

Yamabond (available from Yamaha motorcycle dealers) is recommended by many who have had great success with it as a sealer for ZFs.
