I'm new to Pantera's - got mine Feb. 19, this year - No .3388. Had a lot of electrical work done including replacing the turnsignal switch. I have now had 2 put in, the first burned up the low beam contacts and nearly the car, burning fingers pulling fusing wires loose. The second, from the same vendor (who I will leave anonymous for the time being as the rest of the parts I got from them were just fine so I do not wish to cast any aspersions)and bearing the same Part No. switch worked only a few times then failed both HB and LB contacts - no heat this time - just poor quaity manufacture that will not maintain proper contact alignment (the root cause of the first switch failure as well).

My question is, who makes/handles a quality switch? Advice where to find one is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Ed Nagel

Have you considered the relay trick to get the high current load of the headlights out of the turn signal contacts? A particularly good idea if you have changed your old sealed beams for halogens or better.

DEFINITELY install a relay kit or the Pantera Electronics ATO Fuse Panel (I believe it incorporates relays to take the load off the in-dash switches). Relay kits are available from Rich Boschert and Rick Mosely, and other vendors too I imagine.

Your very expensive ignition switch is also at risk without relays because all that starting/operating current is running through it - can you say "burnt wiring harness"? I had the interior of my car instantly fill with smoke one evening about 5 miles into a drive - pulled over and shut it down as quickly as possible to avoid an electrical fire. The heat melted/burned the insulation off the wires going into the switch, which then caused things to short - a situation that quickly goes from bad to worse! I was fortunate it didn't go further.

Thanks folks for all the advice! I think I have some good directions to follow now. The photos of the switch that Bill Taylor posted are the internals of the swithces that I had fail. I will be sending Bill One of my burnt up units for rebuild in the not too distant future. The heald light relay is next on the elctrical hit list - it was up there to begin with, but guess I got too anxious to take up residency in the left seat - only been waitng 40 years to do it.
