Awesome garage and collection. Props to the Pantera for overwhelming him at an auto show where he went to buy a Countache. That was the start of his collection! I particularly enjoyed his reference to the new Ford GT. Very fitting indeed!

I've added it to the "Video" list on my DeTomasos in Movies, Television and Video page:

Cheers!

Well, if my income rose exponentially, and my rate of aging decreased exponentially, I too would have a garage just like that. OK, I'd have less of that new-fangled trashy stuff and more vintage iron like a Mangusta, a Bora, a Miura, a Lusso.... but all for the same reasons.

Thanks for the post TomCat!
Yeah sure. I am never envious of the rich. I am envious of those that create and produce and help others make a better world.

Nice to walk thru your garage with a bottle of wine and appreciate the art, design and the colors. Like any art connaisseur. But there are lots of places we can go to do the same thing. Showrooms, dealers, Monterey and all the other awesome car shows.

I'm just not envious of any collector as I don't have a passion to collect. Most colectors are investors. I may be nuts, but I have yet to see the car that makes me want to sell my Pantera. I also have no desire to replace my wife with a supermodel.

His garage is sweet - and full of pretty things. They may be faster, well appointed inside and handle like an F1 car with a stereo.

But I know each nut and bolt I polished and replaced in my Pantera. I have a love affair with my car. I love the noise she makes when I squeeze her. Nothing can match the feeling she gives me when I am inside her nor the exhilaration when we are on the edge of losing control.

Call me romantic, but I think most guys who have too many toys - love them each a little less.
Couldn't agee more with you....
Driving to my shop today in my Pantera, stereo blazing listening to Jethro Tull, Locomotive Breath, a smile came over my face as I thought about how lucky I was to be driving my Pantera while others around me were driving Mini Vans, Saturns, Honda's and Toyota's....

I'm happy with what I have even with the ups and downs....

My anthem too...
Jethro Tull - Locomotive Breath Lyrics
In the shuffling madness
of the locomotive breath,
runs the all-time loser,
headlong to his death.
He feels the piston scraping --
steam breaking on his brow --
old Charlie stole the handle and
the train won't stop going --
no way to slow down.
He sees his children jumping off
at the stations -- one by one.
His woman and his best friend --
in bed and having fun.
He's crawling down the corridor
on his hands and knees --
old Charlie stole the handle and
the train won't stop going --
no way to slow down.
He hears the silence howling --
catches angels as they fall.
And the all-time winner
has got him by the balls.
He picks up Gideons Bible --
open at page one --
old Charlie stole the handle and
the train won't stop going --
no way to slow down.
Seems like a nice guy. Probably a real dragon when it comes to business though!
If this guy sells spare parts to the airline industry...maybe we know now why THEY'RE going broke!
I certainly put more stock in his comments about cars (that he actually owns) than I do in the Communist Chinese wanna-be that dissed everything DeTomaso on the BOZO thread.
Very cool that, with all those amazing cars, he still loves his Pantera.
Cheers.

Peter Saywell’s Pantera is a 1989 model, chassis #9532. Ben Tyer on his QV500.com web site reports Saywell originally bought the car from Pullicino Garage in Wandsworth, London. Phil Stebbings who says he is a close friend of Peter Saywell, reports the Saywell GT5S Pantera is the subject of an article in a recent Classic & Sportscar Magazine (if anyone can find this article, scan it and send it to me, I would be most grateful).

The car was offered for sale this year on the Oakfields web site (http://www.oakfields.com/), and the description read as follows:

This Right Hand Drive car was first registered in the UK in August 1989 and has covered 15534 miles (25000kms). Finished in black with Cream leather trim. An exceptionally good car maintained regardless of cost. Features include a Brook speed 5.5 Ford SVO V8 engine. Recently serviced, air conditioning. Special Alloy wheels. A1 condition throughout.
Brookspeed Engine built in 2001 Ford SVO V8 5.5ltr compression ratio of 10-1 BHP 503.3 @ 67500 RPM Complete with Dyno sheets; Engine Spec includes;
Crane cam shafts, 4 bolt main bearings, internal balance steel crank, balanced Carrillo rods, Cosworth pistons, Lightened and balanced flywheel, Tilton 3 piece race clutch, Race spec roller cams, stage 3 full race spec heads, high ratio race roller rockers, x plane high rise competition inlet manifold, high flow 4 barrel holly carb (750 cfm), fully internally baffled deep sump.

The guys in the UK DeTomaso Drivers Club say that Saywell is nice guy and a genuine car enthusiast. If I recall correctly, he was involved in their club.

Hi Peter,

I have a copy and I'll scan it on Monday for you. DEEB showed me the pics of your summer ride through the rockies—looks like an amazing trip. No way I could keep up with that crew. Hope all is well.
