I have a set of Corba R wheels and I'm considering putting them on my Pantera, street driven only. Why can't I use billet aluminum spacers? The come in various bolt patterns and thicknesses from 1.25" to 2.5" and are about $45.00 a pair. Plus they are a lot less labor than the Hall kit and would allow me to swap between the Cobra setup and stock wheels whenever the mood struck me. I think all I need is a pair 2.0" spacers, what are the drawbacks?

There are two types of wheel spacers. Type 1 is a simple metal (occasionally plastic) disc with holes in it that sits between the axle & wheel. The stock studs are used, but if such a spacer is over maybe 3/8" thick, not enough threads will engage on the studs, and you risk losing a nut, then a wheel. To replace OEM Pantera studs with longer ones is easy on the front. In the rear, the whole suspension upright must be disassembled on each side to R&R the wheel studs, and not all replacement studs will clear the carrier, brake rotor etc without machining. Type 2 spacer has a second set of wheel studs built into it, clocked at maybe 30 degrees from the OEM studs. These are used to fasten the wheel down while the OEM wheel studs are used to bolt the spacer to the axle. Low-profile nuts fit into counterbored recesses in the spacer, so the wheel will sit flush on it. This type is used for such things as dirt track sprint cars & other such uses. This type spacer will NEVER be sold for $45 a set....
I have the Hall kit on my car. Without the spacers, 17 x9" wheels, the rears will sit inboard too far. With the spacers, the stock lugs are way too short. I have about 600 miles on my setup (all street) with a few holeshots thrown in. No problems so far. My next step will be to look for matching 17 x 10.5 and wider tires and I believe I can do awat with the spacers

Been looking at the Cobra wheels myself. Try AFS Wheels. AFS@AFSinfo.com 818-340-6181 They offer a REPO 17x10.5 +27 offset, 6.63 backspacing. They also have tires, mounted and balanced. Haven't found any info if this wheel will fit without a spacer? Let me know if you find any info. Good Luck
Jack, go to www.restoremustangs.com/ These are the type adapter you said would never be sold for $45.00/pr. You were right, they are priced each.
