ZF Oil Recommendation

OK, so I am a new Pantera owner and all I want to do change my ZF oil. So I scan all 39 pages of this ZF forum hoping to get some kind of definitive answer as to the correct weight and type. Nice try.

Here is what I think I heard:
The original owners manual recommended a straight 80 weight oil. Maybe this pre-dated general availability of multi-weights. There is where the concensus ends. GL4 or GL5, with or without limited slip additives. I was looking at the Redline 75-90 and the 75-90NS. There seems to be a Mobil 1 camp and a Castrol camp. The synthetic (maybe more leaks)vs. conventional. So at the risk of opening a big can of worms can I get you guys give me opinions, options and reasons.

My driving is street only, generally conservative with the occasional psychotic breaks. I'm running modestly modified 351C at about 450hp if it matters.

Thanks everyone. There seems to be a reasonable concensus about avoiding the synthetics to reduce the tendency to leak. The Castrol crowd seems to be happy with the product so Castrol it is. The outside temperature has dropped to about freezing and whatever is in there now is definitely thickening up. I'll have to give it a good run before I drain it. Thanks again for the feedback.

Don't forget to check the coolant's freezing point. When I brought my GT40 home from the states and we encountered our first really cold night warning, I thought it would be prudent to make sure it would be OK. I'm sure glad I checked because it had no anti-freeze properties at all and I would have had big troubles in my non-heated garage. I hope you're enjoying your car and that all is well.

Thanks Mark,

I've decided to go wingless, so it has changed a bit from the picture. I waited 30 years to finally get one so I figured get one with everything done. Of course they are never done and I already have a list of things I want to do. The problem is I live in Canada and the snow has started flying so the car is a bit garage bound for now.
