On my last long drive (300 miles) my ZF would not go into 4th or 5th gears. I would shift into fourth and it would be in second gear. That really revs the engine. I got it into 4th and 5th by pushing the shifter over near 1st gear and the quickly shoving it back to the 4th gear slot and it would then go into 4th and fifth gears. Then I couldn't get into 1st or reverse unless I pushed the shifter to the far right and then back to the left quickly. The shift linkage feels tight in all the joints. Something must be loose somewhere. Anybody got any ideas?
Thanks
Gary

...sounds like the two set-screws are loose on the Ball-Crank's Shaft; it's in the 'square' shifter box on the ZF. The set screws can be accessed with-out opening the cover by raising the car rear, laying on your back, and removing the two rubber plugs on the bottom of the box! The set-screws take an allen wrench. Take a look and you'll see what I mean. These were loose on a Pantera I sold years ago; that had shifter trouble!...
...Also, If you had told me that it was difficult getting into 'Reverse'; I would tell You that 9 times out of 10, the problem was simply the reverse light SWITCH had been screwed IN too Far. Usually ALL the way in, making it out of adjustment! Believe it! I've been there and these two fixes cured ALL! Good-Luck with it!!...
