Hi Everybody !

I am in the uk, and desperately needs some internal parts for my GT5 Pantera's  ZF Transaxle, in particular all the syncro rings, bearings and some gears. I cant seem to find anyone in the UK who stocks or can get these parts, so I hoping someone on this site can guide me to a supplier in the US ?

Any info would be much appreciated

Colin

I recently purchased synchro rings and bearings from Dennis Quella (Panteraperformance.com). To contact them, send an email to: adam@panteraperformance.com

You can also call him at (303) 660-9897

I didn't have a very good experience with Gr-Box when I bought something from them, not very helpful, high shipping costs to take 10 days between Italy and France.

There is also Rbt which have everything and are the only ones officially recognized by ZF, but are rather expensive: rbttrans.com

Finally, are you sure it's the synchro rings that are worn and not the cones on the sprockets?

PM sent on some parts…

Note the taller 5th gear Steve W. Is selling requires (minor) machining of one of the shifter shafts…. Not a big deal.

I also agree to check the cone on your synchro (esp. 2nd gear).  That’s what wears, not the synchro ring.  I have a thread about it.  You can use the synchro ring from your 1st gear as a gauge because it is never worn - it doesn’t get the hard use second does.

FYI: RBT is the one and only manufacturer of the ZF transaxle and parts. Decades ago, Roy Butfoy (RBT) purchased 100% of the rights, tooling and parts inventory from ZF. ZF no longer has any interest in the transaxle. When buying ZF parts from anyone other than RBT, you should ascertain whether the parts are made by RBT (ZF) or are aftermarket. Aftermarket parts may or may not be OK but you should have a clear understanding of exactly what you're buying.

Paul Fleming in Maldon, Essex UK is the go-to guy for ZF rebuilds, he may have parts.

Dennis was using/supplying bronze synchros from another box, they work but they aren't original spec., some people shy away from those.

Do y'all remember the brake masters that Steve had manufactured..... I'll leave it there!

Did change ALL 5 synchros got them from RBT out of Texas.

My synchros where dead due to corrosion. Still have one as souvenir on my desk. Same as with the limited slip clutch disks by the way.

Work was done by ZF in Germany/Urbach. The Chief Technician a prob 60 years old Fellow was involved with the dev and Testing of the then new ZF.  He told me they at end of life ZF had garages full of the produced stuff all went to scrap..Oh Boy..

Double check  the version of the synchros. as my first delivery had the wrong size. Think was RBT delivery fault but not sure.

Dennis Quella sells bronze synchro rings in original size but also in "repair size", ie a smaller size than the original ones which allows them to be installed on sprockets with the worn cone. It's much cheaper than changing the couple of sprockets plus the synchro ring, $165 vs $1435 at RBT per gear, multiplied by 4 (the first gear is very rarely worn) it makes a difference of more than 5000 $! That's what I did and hope it will work fine.

If your ZF transaxle was professionally rebuilt by anyone other than RBT there is a good chance that your transaxle has parts in it that are from Wilkinson.
