LPB, couldn't you just run the 2bbl carb until your other engine is done? It will only be for a little while and that way you save money on buying parts AND gasoline in the meantime.
Since this is a short term situation why don't you just use a 4V intake? The larger ports will cover the 2V ports with no problems. Won't be the most effective setup but will be cheaper in the long run. I seem to recall one of our engine guru's talking about this.
If the valves drop, so what, its the back up motor!
I think that is why he should just put it in as is without spending a dime on it. Every dollar he puts into this one, is one less he can put into his stroker.
