had a very nasty experience last week... i was hauling my new John Deere compact tractor , driving rainy, highway light curve, around Antwerp, when a overtaking car got his grip lost , smashed into the mid concrete wall, was projected into my trailer and back to the highway mid wall ... Frowner
Lucky no injuries , but his car total loss ( in fact in parts over a 100 m highway ) , my trailer total loss and my only 2 months old BMW also near total loss... ( rear impact by my trailer ) .Now that's not a problem as i'm omnium insured and here without discussion total in right but what me surprized : what is ON our trailers is NOT insured ! You have to take yourself a dedicated insurance if you want...or as when you haul a car or boat , that one has better a omnium insurance itself !

Lucky my tractor had only some bend irons and was repaired in a few hours ....all heavy tie down strips were broken but lucky he stayed on the trailer....

The most important part. Cars, trailers, and tractors can be fixed or replaced. Glad you are OK.

well, thank you for the toughts UFO-LOW ! Yes, indeed , first worry was the damage to the rolling stuff but only and only because there were no injuries at that moment .. so we were lucky to be concerned about replaceble materials Smiler
Very fortunate that nobody was hurt.

In Canada, the tractor would be covered by my home insurance. My trailer is insured but whatever is on it must always carry it's own coverage. But your experience raises a valuable lesson as I'm sure many of us have trailered home a new vehicle purchase and some may not have arranged coverage in advance of moving it.

I don't have shop insurance. If my shop burned and your car was in it. I hope your car had insurance on it. You only find out how insurance works when you "make a claim" You agent can tell you "your covered" but when it is time to make a claim, you find out different. Don't get me started... The driver who caused the crash is responsible for damage to your tractor, sue him, for the damages. If his insurance does not pay, it is his problem, not yours, Glad your ok.
Thank God your OK but Insurance really stinks these days.

In New York if the tractor was on the trailer attached to your car ...it was insured. If your garage burns down and you didnt insure the contents for the cars your not covered...but if the cars were insured WITH COLLISION they are insured.

I just changed classic insurance companies and went checked all the coverage to insure I was properly covered ... come to find out I was not ..but now I am.
