What is your budget and willingness to accept mods etc.? I do believe the value of a GT5S is somewhat in it remaining mostly stock ( except where the engine is concerned). Things like original Campi wheels add a lot of value and are getting hard to obtain. Are you willing to consider something that requires work or looking to obtain a fully sorted example?

Be wary of conversions executed with Hall panels as they were reputed to not be exact left and right, but then many originals car aren't either.

I know of a 72 GT5S conversion that requires some work, can probably be had in the mid $40K region.

More info on mine is in the links below. Major reason I bought it over an original 5S is that in CA you are stuck with the original 5S engine for the real 1980+ 5S cars since you have to deal with smog. At least with mine I figured it was built on original 5S flares from the factory and done right, plus Fontana block torque always makes passengers pee their pants (diapers required, tired of cleaning the seat). But that's ok if you prefer original and less HP engine with the 1980+ real 5S, as there sure is value in that too. If you don't mind modified, you could always check with the factory for some factory flares, check cost to build them on a stock body car, do a somewhat similar engine like Roush 427 aluminum engine, prep/paint the engine bay, polish the trans & other parts, upgrade the suspension, do the interior...on and on. At least then you can build it the way you like it and do the quality & color of paint you want. As far as mine, I am always open to unreasonable high offers Smiler:

Jan,

I re-read my post and I hope that I didn't appear to imply that your car wasn't WORTH (and likely cost) more than some "original factory" GT5-S cars. Certainly, as you note, in many respects it is much better. A fantastic car (as all yours are) to be sure.

Ha ha, never any wrong implication Mark. There are always good things to say for both stock and modified cars. I like em both ways, but after owning my orange L for many many years, I eventually was drawn more into the next level of craziness (as long as the build & modifications are good). I was just suggesting to Agustboy who began the thread what he may want to look into if he desires to build one with fenders, high output FE engine, bling bling, etc...you know how it goes, never endless mods once you start. If he is in a smog free area and wants a beefed up engine to drop in it, then an original 5S may be the way to go and then tinker with that. I just figured from his Murci photo that he may like extre power with it. Otherwise just buy a real 5S and enjoy it as is, since it does have some respectable power too.

Looks like Julian has a nice lead. Just depends on what level he would want to build it too and how deep his pockets are. I presume its the yellow 5S for $40K.

nice car but in Belgium it would be just the way around... you guys can do that to avoid smog equiment but here it wouldn't pass tech inspection with build year 73...they would check the original spec's and for example tires may only be 1 size bigger ....brakes, suspension must be original... a sleeping danger, one can buy a car from a dealer with "connections" but the party begins once you want to sell the car or need tech inspection after a year...
