Besides Hall's auto transaxle, Wilkinson once built one auto-trans Pantera, using (I think) a Euro Renault transaxle. I've seen Audi FWD transaxles used in mid-engined kit-cars as well, but these are all Euro trannys from big luxury cars not imported to the U.S, so they should cost at least as much as a ZF while parts, service etc would be iffy at best. Unless you have a serious physical disability that precludes using a stick trans, I advise against this. Note that former CART champion Alex Zanardi lost both lower legs in a tremendous crash racing in Germany a year ago; a recent news report shows him driving his new 6-speed stick-shift sports car...
