For those looking to buy new wheels, here are some photos of my selection and fitment.

Front: 17x8 15mm offset w/ 225/45R17
Rear: 18x10 0 offset w/ 285/40R18

The offsets were selected (thanks George for the advise) to pull the tire outward to give the look of a full wheel well. I used 18s in the rear due to better tire availability as I only wanted to buy wheels once. I'm not saying that 17 inch rear tires will suddenly disappear, but they are much more limited then they used to be. Its possible that in 5 years the options will be severely limited.

The 285s are not quite as wide as 315 or 335 tires, but the entire set of tires was half the price of a 315/335 rear set. These 285s should also put less stress on the 40 year old rear structure compared to wider tires. Ideally, I would have selected an 11 inch rear to allow future flexibility to use 285-315 tires, but 18x11 are not available in clones (as far as I can tell). Feel free to add any comments.

Gorgeous. Well done. Isn't it refreshing to see the fender arches "filled" with 25" & 27" tires the way they were meant to be?

Your tire options for the foreseeable future shall be modern tires available in several choices of matched front/rear sets of V rated (or better) passenger car tires. You'll have none of the tire purchasing issues faced by others. Some of the benefits of the 285 rear tire (in comparison to a 335 rear tire) include lower unsprung weight, better acceleration and improved fuel economy.

The spacing between the sidewalls and fender edges look fairly even front to back, and the gaps between tires and fender arches also look fairly even front to back. I really like the way the rear tire is centered between the muffler and the fender's edge.

We need a straight on side view. Smiler This will let everyone see the relative sidewall height front to back of the 17/18 combo.
