City and Country horn dash switch icon

later Maserati abandoned the toggle switches, and had an icon for the city/country horn switch that looks like a horn...The question, did Detomaso just assume that a gas pump looked like a horn ? Or was there a unique logo for the Goose horn switch ? Lee

A quick call to Santiago, and the answer was that the switches with the city/country horn were on the shelf of the supplier. They were not special order, so they must have been used in other cars. Cost control at Vingale/Ghia would have been high at that time with the "American owners" watching.

As for the Maserati switches, maybe the French thought the pump was like a horn.

Wellis, what an honor to have this be a discussion with Santiago ! I'll admit, at first my reaction was to think that not making a new sticker and just borrowing the piece from a Maserati was kind of lazy....but my second thought was that, 50 years later, how incredibly lucky that I can be lazy and just use one from a Maserati...50 years later, still a brilliant idea Lee

It's hard to tell from your photos Lee, but my original switches seem to all have small notches in the thing metallic adhesive graphics. Did you also have them?

Mark, good question, I've never looked closely enough to see the notches! Rocky, the "fire" icon is for the rear window defogger on Maserati...Of course, at least early Mangusta didn't have defogger window, and there is nothing shown on the Hall-supplied wiring diagram, (even though the Hall wiring diagram shows some things that may have only been on the latest cars, especially a "fuel reserve warning" light,also a Parking brake light (and reverse switch and antenna switch)…

...so plenty of fun mysteries;
- 1076 didn't have a low fuel light in the gas gauge, and at least some Panteras didn't either.
- Panteras put the backup switch on the transaxle (shifter cover), but I cannot imagine where anybody would even mount a backup light on the Mangusta…even though the wiring diagram shows (2), with one next to each tail-light.
- there was no provision on the umbrella-type parking brake for a switch, at least not for either 1046 or 1076...As best I can tell, the parking brake light is (as shown on the wiring diagram), right between the tach and speedo (here on the '1196 Bordinat car, but as well on one of the earliest production cars, '514) http://www.provamo.com/Members.../R8MA514/R8MA514.asp

Maserati has it listed as rear-window heat

...here is a strange twist, the Alfa version of this switch really looked like a horn !
