Thanks in advance for rehashing this topic. I'm new to Panteras and haven't done much with Ford V8s. I am in the process of rebuilding 5715 from the ground up. The engine we are building is an all aluminum 400 CI 9.2 deck Clevor topped off with EFI and coil-near-plug. I chose an alloy block mostly for weight. The engine is at the machine shop which is about 10 hours from me so not easily accessed. I believe the back of the engine block is standard Ford Windsor. Here is my question: Can anyone share any knowledge or personal experience with installing and using a double disk clutch assembly? I should add that I used multi-disk clutch assemblies in my race car for about 14 years with very few issues. What I don't know is how well the available units fit within the ZF bell-housing. I want to use a double disk setup because of the lower actuation force required. I have a sensitive left knee from helping a friend move his piano. If there is a link to specific info about the above it will be most appreciated. Every time I search for something it seem I spend hours.

Lack of vital master and slave travel required distance information
3 finger or centre force systems, release bearings that can be shimmed/unshimmed.

I fear the Manuel reference will be lost on most Americans, they may have gotten to see some Monty Python, but I'm not sure Fawlty Towers made it here.

I used to drive by the hotel they used for all the exterior shots on almost a daily basis.

As for the original clutch questions. I would assume the activation system was going to be custom so pedal to ToB would match the clutch needs. if using the original pedal/MC/slave, then its limited range will be a challange as Peter mentioned

then the concern would be packaging the clutch in the limited space of the ZF bell housing and the use of expanding things like centrifical assist clamping

McLeod Dual Disk Clutch

I have run the Pantera-specific Centerforce Dual Friction clutch (diaphragm) with the McLoed throwout bearing with no problems.

But I don't think that's what you are asking about.

Mike - there's some experts over here, Ron McCall, Dennis Quella, Scott & Chris Bell and I'm sure a lot more people on the west coast (working from the east). You might just call a couple of those guys and see when they recommend.

Mike, as mentioned, the pedal actuation area is really too limited to get enough disengagement distance with ONE disc. Now double that with multiple discs and you will be rapidly wearing out the steel synchros in your ZF transaxle. They are not simple to change and are very expensive as well since the integral gear cones wear with the synchros. Thus everything must be replaced. There is ONE source for new ZF parts in the universe and everyone pays full retail.

Another approach is one successfully used by several more severely handicapped owners: a vacuum-assisted power unit adapted to the std clutch. One from an import mini-truck power brake assembly can be made to fit in the space available on the front firewall. It's booster-can is around 5" in OD. This approach avoids the can-of-worms that is involved in clutch adaptions and focusses on the effort expended for the distance the clutch must travel to work optimally.

I have a dual disk setup in my Pantera. Don't believe those that say it can't be done. It can be done easily without the doom and gloom that some feel will happen to the ZF.

I had my clutch build my SPEC Clutches. I know for a fact they could build a suitable clutch for your application.

All of my Clutch components are 100% Pantera specific and standard (aftermarket) and it works 100% perfect. The Clutch and pressure plate is McLeod (diaphram) and I bought it from panteraperformance.com incl the new throwout bearing. It has worked 100% perfect from day one. I did my self the favour during install to measure and shim for correct play between pressure plate diaphram spring and throwout bearing.

The clutch issue has been beaten to death on this forum. Unfortunately most problems are caused because many Pantera owners are not aware of the unforgiving importance of using only Pantera specific components and adhere closely to recommended tolerances and procedures.
