Dash Lamps- dim subject?

I think the best thing to do is bypass the dimmer switch, I am sure it was only intended as a joke anyway.
You can replace all the bulbs with 6w halogen side light bulbs. I have done this on the sub dials on Jon Roots car and it did improve the brightness. Nothing like as good as taking the clock apart though but that is very difficult on the Goose because of the aluminium bezels. The bulbs I used are known as 433c or H6W or BAX9S or 64132 You have to file off one of the pins to get it to fit because they are offset, you only need one pin to hold it in there. It is necessary to drill or punch a hole in the clock body though to prevent condensation on the glass. You dont have to do this if you use LEDs but the light is cold.

...great question and answer ... you read my mind ... but the thing that prevents me from doing this is ... the damn harness is so short ..that its impossible to pull the dash panel out without disconnecting all the wires ... maybe its my Electric-phobia ? LOL

Probably the simplest is to replace all of the bulbs with LED bulbs. I replaced all of my bulbs with LED and it not only is cooler but way brighter

Good to hear!!! Which bulbs did you use?

I tried a couple of the 180 degree bulbs in my speedo, as a test, and they weren't any brighter than what I had....

SOOO, I'm thinking that I need to look into my silly dimmer switch and see what's afowl with it!

I actually had one more set of new standard incandescent bulbs that I installed and they did brighten the whole affair up to just legible at night....

Time to pull the dash top and dig in!

After writing my previous post I pulled the top off Jon Roots dash and bypassed the dimmer switch. This was very easy to do and did increase the brightness quite a bit. I did not have to cut into any wires I simply cut a short piece of thin wire, striped at both ends and then fanned the ends of the wire and inserted then into the female spade connector before pushing it back onto the switch. Be careful not to scratch the top of your steering wheel with the 6mm stud that is welded onto the bottom of the dash top.
