Pushbutton,
Is this a two point or four point cage? The four points do require a access hole to be cut in the front to allow the backing plate to be inserted and sandwiched between the chassis and cage.

If I recall the earlier cars did not have the seatbelt retractors and therefore the access hole for seatbelts. As George points out, most require the stock seatbelt mounts plate and retractors removed and the two point cage bolts in. I would guess that you do not have this style belt. Can you supply a picture of the seatbelt floor mount area to confirm?
Sorry Pushbutton, if I new your car was different I would have warned you before you bought it from me. My best suggestion is to add the retractor plates to your car.
The holes that you leave for the bolts when the bar is removed are kind of inconsequential to the chassis. You could plug them with those black plastic body fasteners in the future if you take the bar out. That's what I'm going to do now. When I change the carpet, the carpet will cover them. It isn't like they will be a rust or draft problem.
As far as the roll cage goes your choice is to weld it in or bolt it in. Bolts require holes.
The only other alternative I saw was from Pantera Performance awhile back. It is a roll bar that mounts in the engine compartment and has bars that extend forward through the rocker panels to the front wheel wells.
The added advantage to it is that it ties the chassis together somewhat, gives some side impact protection, and help in a head on.
The downside is that you have to pull the engine and gas tank to get it in.
I seem to remember it was around $900. You have to call Denis and ask him if he still has it or can get it. I haven't asked him as of yet. I think he gets mad if you ask about it and you don't buy it.
I've been thinking about doing it but that's a lot of work. I don't want to pull them out again.
If you are going to race these things you need a bar. IF you land on your roof you better not be afraid of being a sardine if you don't have one.
I think the doors in the Pantera jambs shut in this case rather then pops open, but I don't really wanna find out. It's an upsetting thought.
Also if you need a roll bar then you need the gas tank check valve. All that gas on a hot engine...I hate the smell of napom in the morning.
Incidentally I had the Moroso offset padding on the bar with a leather lace on cover at one time. It looks nice but for me took up to much interior room. I still have the cover stashed somewhere I think.
Well, I have been thinking about this. The mount has 2 bolts on top and 2 bolts on the inside. I think I can cut a hole between the 4 holes and insert the trimmed down backing plates. I know that there are a/c pipes and a battery positive wire in the passenger side.I plan to cut my way through with a small cut off wheel. When I start on it I will do an install photo shoot and post. I am still considering my options. What if I cut under the floorboard, then weld the panel back?
Me personally? I would make an access panel in the pontoon (on a GT40 that's what they call them). If you go that far then make the access panel to take the newer seat belt mounting plate. You don't have to use the factory retractors. You can change over to the comp seat belts.
If you look at the space left between the seat belt and where the roll bar has to go, you may as well convert it.
Get some other opions. Don't just base your decision on what I say. I'm still mezmorized by the girls in George's hot tub and the buttery nipples. (:

I have spent time on the phone with Dennis probably 5 or 6 times. Before I even owned a car, I talked probably 45 minutes with him about his work done on 2511 for a previous owner. Last time was about my failed internal hydraulic throwout bearing. We determined I needed a new one, he didn't have one on the shelf. He could have said 'order one from me and I'll drop ship it to you', which would have given him at least some profit on his time spent on the phone. He instead said to just call McCleod and order from them.

Doesn't sound like Dennis is someone who gets mad if you don't buy from him, does it? Wink

Let me state it this way; if you call me and spend two hours on the phone, asking me basically to describe how the thing is made and then how it is installed and I have to call you back to tell you when I can ship it to you and you tell me forget about it I personally would be very frustrated and probably would kick the cat.
I have no negative comments to make about Dennis . He has helped me out more then a couple of times.
