Hello

On my "new" 1971 Pantera I'm currently replacing the handbrake cable who is missing.

I'am also missing a spring for the driver's side and i didn't find it in any drawing (master part catalog, technical informations book).

Does anyone can help me ?
Follow this link and you will see what I'm talking about (3 last pictures, passenger's side spring and brake system).

Other question : I tried very hard to pull myself the system (like if I was the cable) to see if the mechanism is working.
it doesn't move a millimiter ...is this normal or the mechanism is block by the rust maybe ?

Thanks for your support

You should be able to move the caliper lever (where the brake cable attaches). Try moving it in both directions to see if it will free up. A caliper rebuild may be necessary.

This is the linkage that actuates the stock e-brake. If your lever is frozen I would guess the area where the actuator passes through the indirect piston is siezed with rust.

Note that most rebuild kits do not supply the O ring that seals this area.

The O ring does not show in this shot. It lives in a groove within the indirect piston and seals/rides on the shiny area on the part that I'm calling the actuator. It is the piece located just above the eyes of the circlip that is marked "was loose"

You cannot remove the arm the cable pulls on until the indirect piston is disassembled as shown. That involves holding the indirect piston in a vice to slightly compress the coil spring and extracting the large circlip seen just to the right of the slotted hat shaped piece.

It is a bit of a patience lesson. Good luck.
