I'll try not to get too long winded.
I have my car pretty much fully sorted except,
one last pet peeve,
My headlight buckets shake/jump up and down ever so slightly, especially the passenger side, especially over rough roads.

I have tightened the motor gears against the connecting bar gears as much as possible.
I have installed the bump stop modification for the bar gears to rest against when fully up.

I fabbed up and installed a bracket for a bearing to hold solid the passenger end of the bucket connecting bar.

Still, the headlights jitter/bounce. Must drive the people in front of me crazy at night.

I should mention that the OEM nylon/plastic bushings for the connecting bar are long gone.
And I have Kirk Evans quad lights, so the buckets don't go up all the way.

Surely I'm not the only one with this problem.

Any ideas from people that have cured this succesfully would be greatly appreciated.

I really don't want to get into re-enginering the whole system.

Thanks,
Doug M

Going through old Pictures here. Smiler

The very early cars has a system that deal with the bucket shake.

The buckets has extensions with a rubber Mount welded to the back side. They can be seen in the first two Pictures.

When the buckets open they move against a stop-bracket that is bolted to the inner front structure. The hole and 2 small studs that it attaches to can be seen in the Picture of the front structure (right Next the the radiator Mount).

This system is only on the very early cars, no idea when they phased it out, but is was there untill 1267.

Thanks guys!

Push, I like that design. Wouldn't be too hard to add that system to what I have. Never knew it was original on the early cars. Might have to dig out the welder this weekend.

LIV1S, If the above doesn't cure the problem completely I'll add the spring as well.

Any other ideas before I start cutting holes in my car? Smiler

Thanks again,
Doug M
Come to think of it. They most likely moved away from this system when they changed the front structure after the crash tests. That was after chassis 1286 when they put in a lot of front impact bracing.

They did fx add strengthening pieces on the inside of the inner sheetmetal where the anti-shake-brackets attach (those side pieces were in fact completely redesigned). Possibly this may complicate replicating this system on post-#1286-cars.

I may have Pictures of the differences somewhere

On later (non-PB cars) the individual headlight bar plastic bushings are replaceable- with difficulty. If the bushings are worn out or missing, the entire bar can move around with vibration, changing the headlight bucket positions. Note also on the early cars, there is a center support (without bushings) in the middle of the bar possibly to help reduce shake.
