I have been in love w/ Panteras since I was 7 years old when my father bought me the Hotwheels 1/18 car for my birthday. Over time I forgot about these beasts and concentrated on Mustangs since my father has a '69 GT fastback, but my interest peaked again last year when I saw a beautiful black '73 for sale in Hemmings. Ever since then I have been Pantera crazy and almost made a purchase for one from a user on this forum (sorry forgot his name) but that fell through. Anyways I never thought I would see a Pantera here in Evansville IN, but last Tuesday I found like 13 four leaf clovers (I'm superstitious and believe in these sort of things lol) and on my way home I saw a ridiculously nice maroon '72 and I had to get out and ask the guy for pics, but my camera wouldn't work (I know what a moment) I talked to the guy for a little while and he said he bought it 2 years ago and did a full restoration on it but I did not catch his name. I was surprised but he told me he wasn't the only Pantera in the area and a fella in Henderson KY has 2 of them. Anyways, I was floored by the sound of his cat and amazed by the size of the car, so tiny. Hopefully I will be able to purchase one of these babies in the near future, my only problem is that I'm on a limited income and can only go as high as $30,000. I'd love to find a fixer upper so I can do a project w/ my dad and get him back into cars, so If anyone has any info on Panteras for sale or any in my area, can you give me a heads up. Thanks in advanced.

Andy,

Congrats on "remembering" the Pantera and catching the fever. Check out these links on my website for more info:

How to Buy: http://www.banzairunnerpantera.com/how_to_buy.htm

Cars for Sale:

Some of the 'for sale' links may be obsolete - have to make some updates, but good start.

Also, try www.crazedlist.org to search craigslist listings nationwide in one search for Panteras.

Here are a few I found using crazedlist.org. Most are out of your price range, but it's only by looking at other cars will you know the right deal/car when you find it:

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/ctd/2945828549.html
http://orangecounty.craigslist.../cto/2946072709.html (definitely a fixer in need of a lot of work)

http://palmsprings.craigslist.org/cto/2952168052.html (only $24,555)
http://panamacity.craigslist.org/cto/2926281921.html (another major project)
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/cto/2924898692.html
http://atlanta.craigslist.org/sat/cto/2912333512.html (same car)

Also, keep in mind that a $200 plane ticket to go look at an out of state car is cheap insurance to avoid making a $30,000 mistake. Last, don't let inflated "asking" prices discourage you. I bought my Pantera for almost $10,000 less than the original asking price. Talk to the sellers/owners, get to know them, and find out if either of you has any room to negotiate on the price.
Good luck!
Andy,

Those links open on my Mac. I tried both Safari and Firefox. In the last pic in that first link, there's a Goose in the garage. I'm pretty sure that I met the owner at the big car show in Yuma (AZ) last month. He didn't bring his Pantera or Goose to the show, but he did bring his E Type Jag (and won an award). He's a really nice guy, and he is very particular about his cars. FWIW.

Andy, just keep searching, follow any leads, even if they are old. You'll find your car. That is how I found my Goose, and remember even if the car is not for sale go and see it, who knows you may get lucky like me Smiler

Your story sort of reminds me of a cruise we did in 2009. Our friends from Montreal came to Ottawa for coffee in Little Italy, after coffee we went for a cruise down the airport parkway. Unbeknownst to us going the other way was a new owner. He had been looking of a Pantera for several years, had just bought one and to his amazement there on the other side of the median were 6 DeTomasos. He told me later his heart stopped for a few seconds.

HAHA lolol Dennis that is a great story. I bet if I saw 6 Panteras coming down the road at me, my heart would stop too, then I would do a U-Turn in the middle of the road and chase them down to ask for a look. lol I'd love to get a Mangusta, but they are a little out of my price range as of now. I'm also always looking for a Longchamp, b/c my brother loves them, but they are few and far between, even though the few I've seen aren't really that expensive around 30k.
I almost would put money Andy would show up and grab a wrench
Andy keep the faith I waited 5 years to get the one I wanted I knew it's history and that it was rust free on and in the body. Spend some time looking and if you find one some of us guys (and gals) will go take a look for you if we are close and have the time. If you see one in Florida I am willing to look at it.
